Polarization dependence in resonant soft X-ray emission spectroscopy of 3d transition metal compounds

چکیده
We report experimental studies of polarization dependence in resonant soft X-ray emission of 3d transition metal compounds. In metal 2p resonant soft X-ray emission spectra of 3d0 systems, transition to the bonding and antibonding states between 3d0 and 3d1L configurations shows polarization dependence. In TiO2, the polarization dependence is drastic, whereas it is slightly weak in ScF3 and extremely weak in KMnO4. The results are explained by a local symmetry selection rule, strength of hybridization, and phase relation of wave-functions among initial, intermediate, and final states. In oxygen 1s resonant excitation of undoped cuprate, Sr2CuO2Cl2, we demonstrate that Zhang–Rice singlet excitation, dd excitation, as well as two spin-flip excitations can be distinguished according to their symmetry. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. Polarization dependence of resonant X-ray emission spectra in early transition metal compounds.
We calculate the polarization dependent spectra of resonant X-ray emission in TiF3, VF3 and Cr2O3, which have one, two and three 3d electron(s) in the ground state, respectively. We study the detailed mechanism of the spectral structures, comparing with a previous result of TiO2. Then we discuss systematically the difference of spectra with the change of the 3d electron number from group theore...
متن کاملA Multispectroscopic Study of 3d Orbitals in Cobalt Carboxylates: The High Sensitivity of 2p3d Resonant X-ray Emission Spectroscopy to the Ligand Field**
Determination of the ligand coordination number and symmetry of a transition metal ion is important to understand reaction mechanisms in inorganic chemistry. The problem can be addressed through diffraction techniques or by spectroscopy. Here we limit ourselves to the latter and note that, historically, the problem has been studied with UV/Vis, or optical absorption or electronic spectroscopy. ...
متن کاملProbing interfacial characteristics of rubrene/pentacene and pentacene/rubrene bilayers with soft X-ray spectroscopy.
The electronic structure of rubrene/pentacene and pentacene/rubrene bilayers has been investigated using soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy, resonant X-ray emission spectroscopy, and density-functional theory calculations. X-ray absorption and emission measurements reveal that it has been possible to alter the lowest unoccupied and the highest occupied molecular orbital states of rubrene in rub...

The interfaces of LaAlO3/SrTiO3 and (LaAlO3)x(SrTiO3)1−x/SrTiO3 heterostructures have been investigated by soft x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy for different layer thicknesses across the insulator-to-metal interface transition. The valence band and Fermi edge were probed using resonant photoemission across the Ti L2,3 absorption edge. The presence of a Fermi-edge signal originating from the pa...
متن کاملHigh-resolution X-ray emission and X-ray absorption spectroscopy.
In this review, high-resolution X-ray emission and X-ray absorption spectroscopy will be discussed. The focus is on the 3d transition-metal systems. To understand high-resolution X-ray emission and resonant X-ray emission, it is first necessary to spend some time discussing the X-ray absorption process. Section II discusses 1s X-ray absorption, i.e., the K edges, and section III deals with 2p X...
